Learning Goals
The learning goal of this class is to fall in love with crochet. To start a simple project and make something beautiful. The student will learn this lifelong skill that is great for dealing with stress, great for gifting, and great for fun. This craft teaches endurance, patients, and perseverance. Crochet is very relaxing and calming once you learn a few simple steps. It can help control emotions such as anger, anxiousness and will help build confidence by seeing completed work. I encourage the student all along the way and work with them to make sure they are a success. It takes time! They will not learn this is the first class. For most of my students, it takes about 3 weeks for them to get the basics and move forward to the project. Once the project starts they light up!

Supply List
AMAZON CROCHET KITS ARE NOT GOOD FOR THIS. THE YARN IS NOT GOOD QUALITY. Starting out you will at least need a darning needle, craft scissors, and a hook. I would get the 5 mm hook, color doesn't matter, but I would not recommend the plastic hook. You will also need 6 skeins of the same yarn. I prefer the Red Heart brand, or I Love This Yarn brand but any brand will do. Look on the back of the yarn label for 4 weight, this is what works best for beginners. Any color will do. Make sure the yarn is not bulky yarn or overly think yarn. I have attached a picture showing the yarn and needle, please note size and color in the picture may be different and doesn't really matter. This is all they should need for now.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from Ashford University
I have been crocheting for myself and gifts for others for over 20 years. I love the art of crochet, which I learned from my grandmother. This skill will not be learned in one class, like any skill it takes practice and patients. I love watching children learn and get excited when they see that piece of yarn become something in their hands.
