Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 12
Crochet private art lessons are for beginners, intermediate, and advanced crocheters that need or want individualized attention.

In crochet private tutoring with Miss Christine, you can learn any of the following:
- The basics of crochet, including the slip knot, chain stitch, single, double, and treble crochet
- Explore tension, and how it relates to the projects we create
- What "getting gauge" means, how to check gauge, and where to look for it in the pattern and on the yarn label
- What tools are used, and how they are used to create crochet art
- Advanced techniques such as the magic circle, and combination stitches such as the popcorn stitch
- How to create, test, and publish crochet patterns
- Where to market your work
- How to finish pieces so that the work looks neat, including "blocking"

My teaching style is encouraging and goal centered. I believe if we set realistic goals, my students can achieve them, which sets them up for confidence to conquer the next task.
Learning Goals
In each lesson, students will learn crochet techniques that interest them. Whether the goal is to simply make a scarf, or develop skills which will lead them to eventually create their own patterns, we will learn make well formed, uniform stitches, and make items they can share. We will discuss how stitches go together to make shapes, and how to use increases and decreases to make curves, spheres, and cylinders. We also can explore piece work, combination stitches, and explore yarn types.

LATE AND CANCELATION POLICY If you ever need to add or cancel a session, let me know. I like to have a new session on my calendar and approved at least 24 hours before which helps me plan. Just send me a message to let me know when you'd like to add a session, I will check my calendar to see if I'm available, and add it and send it for your approval. ;) To cancel, just let me know BEFORE we are supposed to meet and I am happy to refund. My policy is not to refund after the session starts. If you are running late, I will meet late and if I am able, stay late. This is generally the case if I don't have another session right afterward. Unfortunately, I cannot bill for partial sessions. Thank you so much for visiting and I look forward to helping your student reach their goals!
Supply List

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have over 40 years experience crocheting, and over 3.5 years experience teaching crochet. I have taught students as young as 7, to adults well into their 70s. It is so rewarding teaching what I have been taught. It is like giving a gift that was handed to me when I was a child on to the next generation. :)
