What's included
Homework
1-2 hours per week. Each week, after watching the demonstration, students should spend time practicing. They will post their progress, and their questions in the Outschool classroom. Students will also compare and comment on each other’s work. Students will also answer a weekly question about their work. I will give feedback and encourage each student.Class Experience
This is a flex class. There will be no live meetings. (If you prefer I do offer a live version of this class.) Each week I will upload a video demonstrating the stitches and techniques used to make a basic granny square. Students will watch the videos, learn, and practice each stitch until they have a completed square. They will have the option of making one large square or making several small ones. They will be able to post their questions and pictures of their progress. I will provide each student with feedback about their work. Students will give feedback on each others color choices and techniques. All posts will be done in our Outschool classroom. This is a beginner class. Students will learn basic crochet concepts that includes slip knot, chain stitch, single and double crochet. I will post a new video by Monday morning. On Wednesday I will post a question that they will answer in the Outschool classroom. I will check daily to answer questions and comment on any posts. Students will post their work and their comments about each others work. **This class is also available for ages 14-18 week 1 : I will discuss yarn (weight, texture) and hooks (sizes, materials) and how they affect your work. I will demonstrate tension (how to hold yarn), how to make a slip knot and a chain. For homework students will practice and will post videos or photos of their work along with questions and comments. week 2: I will demonstrate the slip stitch, the single stitch, and the double stitch. For homework students will practice and post videos or photos of their work along with questions and comments. week 3: I will demonstrate magic loop, joining rounds, and working corners. For homework students will practice and will post videos or photos of their work along with questions and comments. week 4 : I will demonstrate how to add a different color yarn, how to finish our granny squares and how to join them. For homework students will practice and complete their squares. They will post videos or photos of their completed work along with questions and comments.
Learning Goals
Students will learn basic crochet skills and terminology. By the end of the class they will be able to make granny squares that can be used to make a scarf or blanket.
Other Details
Supply List
students will need: at least two skeins of solid worsted weight yarn (each a different color) crochet hooks size H, I, J and k tapestry needle scissors Although granny squares look great in any color when first learning how to make them it is best to choose lighter colors. This will aid in the learners ability to see the stitches Worsted weight or bulky yarns easier to work with than thinner yarn.
