Crochet 101 - Basics of Crochet for Ages 13-18

Average rating:4.8Number of reviews:(144)
This ongoing class introduces students to the basics of crochet at their own pace, with a focus on a relaxed, pressure-free learning environment.

Class experience

Students should ultimately feel confident in their ability to make a slipknot, crochet a chain, and ultimately produce a simple single or double crochet stitch (US terminology). Students may enroll in the ongoing class as many or as few times as they feel is necessary to accomplish this level of proficiency.
Homework Offered
No formal homework is assigned, but students are encouraged to practice outside of the regular meeting time to build their confidence and skill before the next lesson.
Assessments Offered
Once students have demonstrated proficiency in the slipknot, chain, and at least one crochet stitch, they will be encouraged to advance to more challenging lessons.
Grades Offered
Required supplies:
• Crochet hooks (I recommend Size "J" or "6.00mm" for beginners)
• Worsted/Medium weight acrylic yarn. (Avoid dark colors like black and fuzzy yarns for beginners, as they can be difficult to work with.)
• Scissors
Additional supplies:
If your learner is ready to progress to more advanced projects, some of the following supplies may be useful to have:
• Yarn needles (For weaving in ends and attaching pieces)
• Long, ball-head sewing pins (For holding pieces in place while they are being attached)
• Polyester fiberfill (for stuffed toys and pillows)
• Plastic safety eyes for stuffed toys
• Stitch markers (For making it easier to count stitches and do complex patterns)
• Crochet hook organizer (For keeping hooks in an organized space where they are easy to find)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
We may reference the following websites for patterns, tutorials, and other informative resources. These websites do not require the submission of any personal information.
