Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
Beginner Level
Crocheting is a fiber-arts hobby that is becoming increasingly popular to learn about! The possibilities are endless with this fantastic, relaxing activity that makes the artists feel confident and accomplished!

In this 5-week self-paced class, we will learn the basics of crocheting! This class is targeted toward beginners who have never tried to crochet before, or learners who are just starting out. We will learn the necessary tools, about different yarns, and then embark upon the basics of crocheting!

Please note that self paced classes DO NOT meet live! You will have access to the classroom and lessons through videos and classroom posts! Learners are expected to interact through sharing their work with the teacher in order to receive feedback accordingly! Learners will also need to purchase the necessary supplies and tools to complete their class projects (please see the syllabus and supply list for specifics).

Also, I am a right-handed crocheter who uses US terms. Left-handed crocheters may find it difficult to follow a right-handed person.

Bachelor's Degree in English from Western Kentucky University
Hello! I'm Jessica, or you can call me Mrs. Jessica. I live in Kentucky, USA, with my husband, our baby boy, and our pets. I graduated from Western Kentucky University in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in literature and creative writing. I'm a published content creator for an online horror and video game blog and have served as the editor of a published memoir.

I've taught over 7,000 online English classes to students worldwide, including those from the United States, Mexico, China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Vietnam, Korea, India, and many other countries. My teaching experience also extends to traditional classroom settings, where I've worked as a substitute teacher across a range of subjects. I have experience teaching students of all ages and skill levels.

Creative writing is my passion, especially when it comes to imagining new worlds! I teach various genres of creative writing, focusing mainly on fantasy, horror, and science fiction. I also specialize in creative non-fiction, such as essays and memoirs. Besides teaching writing classes, I'll be hosting social clubs for Dungeons & Dragons, anime, gaming, and cosplay enthusiasts.

In my classes, I strive to make every student feel valued and heard. I am patient, kind, and understanding, creating a relaxed classroom environment where students can be themselves. I believe in the importance of personal connection in learning. My teaching style is upbeat, and I aim to keep my classes conversational and fun. I enjoy being silly and love making my students laugh!

Outside of teaching and writing, I have many hobbies! I enjoy drawing, painting, and cosplaying. I've been attending comic-con conventions since 2009 and love creating my own costumes. I'm a big fan of Dungeons & Dragons, playing weekly games with my family, and I also run sessions as a Dungeon Master for my friends. I have a passion for gardening and animals too, and you might even see my dogs or cats make a cameo in our virtual classroom!

I look forward to meeting you in one of my classes soon!
