This is a one-time class in a series of classes I teach on critical reading skills. Try one out and when you’re happy with the results, sign your child up for all the rest! Take all NINE classes, and I’ll refund you 50% for the 9th class! These classes are fun, engaging, and will improve your child’s reading comprehension. In this specific class, we will focus on the critical reading skill of inferencing. We will discuss what an inference is and how to infer using the clues that the author gives us along with our background knowledge to draw conclusions. During the read aloud of The Sweetest Fig by William Chris Van Allsburg, I will model how to ask make inferences. After the read aloud, we will complete the graphic organizers and discuss the inferences we were able to make. These worksheets will be posted in the classroom and it is vital that students have these printouts to participate in the class. If time allows, after the graphic organizers are complete, we will do a craft to go along with the book. Depending on timing of the lesson and the pace of the learners in the class, the craft may need to be finished after class at the parent’s discretion. *Students need to be able to read and write independently to be able to participate in this class. Supplies: Print outs from classroom, pencil, white paper, crayons/colored pencils

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, my name is Brandy Arnold. I have a degree in elementary education. I taught 3rd and 4th grade in the Texas public school system before I had my first child in 2010. Since then, I have been a stay at home mom.
In 2013, I began homeschooling preschool with my oldest daughter. We have been a homeschooling family since then and just started our 9th year.
I have also lead a small early education co-op, served as an elementary coordinator for a larger co-op, and taught many co-op classes. In addition to these in person classes, I have also taught over 100 classes on Outschool.
I love to teach and look forward to the opportunity to meet and teach other children through outschool!
