In this class, learners will become junior detectives in order to solve a murder mystery! First, we will get background information on the case by reading the “official” Incident Report. Next, we will read interview transcripts and learners will have a chance to question all of the suspects. Then, we will conduct a search of the crime scene, looking for evidence that might help us solve the case. Detectives will need to keep their eyes peeled as clues could be hidden anywhere! Each learner will choose an area to “search”. Then they will receive a piece of evidence to analyze individually. We will then come back together as a group to compare the evidence that we have found. In order to solve the case, detectives will need to work together to show that their accused suspect had means, motive and opportunity. Learners will need to print out the provided Case Files before class. We will use these to take notes and organize the investigation.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there! My name is Cera (sounds like "Sarah"), and I am a highly experienced teacher with a passion for education and learning. I am a certified Structured Literacy Dyslexia Specialist and have completed coursework towards a Master's in Education with a focus on teaching multiple subjects to students in grades K-8.
I have been working in the field of education for the past ten years, and have a wealth of experience teaching reading and writing, as well as English as a second language. I have worked with students from elementary to middle school, both in the classroom and online, and have over five years of experience tutoring elementary and middle school students in English Language Arts.
In addition to my expertise in reading and writing, I am also interested in using storytelling and elements of game design to make learning more engaging and interactive. I love to create escape rooms and other types of mysteries, treasure hunts, and games that inspire learners to think critically and creatively.
In all of my classes, I aim to develop skills in communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking, and strive to create learning experiences that are both challenging and fun. Whether it's an escape room or a book club, I believe that learning should be an enjoyable and rewarding experience, and I look forward to sharing that experience with your learners!
In my free time I love to read, crochet, decorate cookies and look for tiny doors hidden in trees.
