US Grade 3 - 6
In this exciting class, students will learn all about the amazing friendly Crocodile Hunter and wildlife warrior, Steve Irwin and his love and passion for wildlife conservation. We will review how Steve was an excited Australian wildlife enthusiast and devoted his life to wildlife conservation and saving wild animals. Class structure (I have a fun slideshow I created that will help guide us through this exciting class): 1.We will begin by learning about how Steve got started with his interest in wildlife. 2. Then the learners will watch a video clip about Steve's ongoing mission and for his family to continue his legacy to help save wild animals. 3. We will learn some of Steve's favorite words and quotes. (I call these "Steve-isms"). 4. The learners will learn about the legendary Steve Irwin and answer some great questions. 5. Fun facts 6. We will watch a short video clip of Steve staying brave and calm while being interviewed and getting bit by a snake. 7. The learners will learn about animals named after the Irwins. Extension (if time allows- usually if there is one or two students...) *We will write a letter from Steve's point of view to the Australia News about why it is important to help save endangered animals. *Together, we will compare and contrast crocodiles and alligators. *There will be a discussion on what the students nicknames would be (eg: Steve Irwin was known as the "Crocodile Hunter"). *Some extra action with Steve and his exciting wilderness adventures. *As an option, learners can read the book "Who was Steve Irwin?" prior to class or after class. Also, for fun, they can look at the differences between crocodiles and alligators, so they will be ready to compare and contrast them. *They may also be interested in watching the TV show Crikey! It's the Irwins (Steve's family is continuing his legacy to this day, and it is so much fun to watch). Also, they can check out YouTube for some great videos about Steve Irwin - the Crocodile Hunter.
