This session is for children with a love (OR a fear!) of all sorts of great and gruesome creatures, not just the cute and cuddly. In this session we will meet four real live animals - Rats, Mice, Tarantulas, and Fighting Fish - animals traditionally thought of as being scary or dangerous. We will learn that we have nothing to fear. Children are invited to show and tell a creepy creature toy if they have one, or they will be invited to tell us a bit about an animal they love. There will be a fun quiz at the end about these amazing animals.
Learning Goals
Children will learn all about these three animal - what their bodies look like and what kind of place they like to live in, and they will be taught how amazing these animals are and why we think they're wonderful, not scary. The more we learn about an animal, the more amazing it becomes, and children will leave our lesson loving our cheeky rats, cute mice, gentle spiders, and beautiful fish.

Children are invited to bring along a creepy creature toy to show if they have one. For children who have taken our original 'Creepy Creatures' class they could share something they learned with the class.

Hi, we are Rachael & Kristan from Lion Learners. We teach classes about all things animal! We're crazy about animals, and look after lots of animals at our homes. We would love to introduce you to some of our wonderful animal friends, and teach you all about them. There is so much to learn - and it's very important to learn about how and why we need to look after wild animals - and how to look after our pets properly too!
We really believe that if children learn about the importance of conservation, and appropriate pet ownership from a young age, then they are likely to have a positive impact on caring for our world and the animals in it when they are older. So we have classes on all sort of animal topics - how to care for your pets, habitats such as rainforest and desert, cold blooded animals, warm blooded animals, minibeasts and a whole lot more.
Lion Learners is a small animal experience company based in the UK. Kristan & Rachael have been running educational workshops with the Lion Learners animals for 7 years. We both love working with children and have lots of experience. Kristan is a qualified primary school teacher in the UK and has taught for over 15 years. Rachael has worked in schools for 12 years, helping children to create outdoor spaces in their school grounds to benefit animals and people too.
We have lots of animal friends at our homes who'd really love to meet you - in our picture you can see Rachael with Dave - he's a duprasi, otherwise known as a fat-tailed gerbil, and he really makes us laugh with his busy personality - he's always rushing about on his wheel, racing in, on, under and through things and generally being a cheeky chap.
