Beginner Level
The world around us is an incredible place, and it's filled with amazing creatures both large and small. In this class, younger learners will be introduced to the smaller side of the animal kingdom. Creepy Crawlies is a class all about insects, arachnids, and other small animals that don't always get the attention of their larger counterparts! Each week, learners will come to class to learn about a different insect, arachnid, or other small animal. All information will be presented using a Google Slides presentation, with a variety of pictures, videos, and graphics, with small amounts of written information. In class, we'll be covering a range of different things about each animal, including but not limited to the following: - The kind of animal we're looking at (insect, arachnid, reptile, amphibian, etc.) - Important features - Where this animal is on the food chain - Where this animal can be found - How people interact with this animal This class will be conversational, and learners will be given an opportunity to practice their classroom social skills by raising their hands and taking turns. Each class will also feature a coloring sheet that we'll color together while we look at the animal of the week! This coloring sheet will also include some basic facts that learners can use to remember information about each creepy crawly. Handouts will be distributed on a weekly basis on more than one occasion so that families can print them before coming to class. Upcoming classes will focus on the following animals: Week of January 7: Scorpions Week of January 14: Lady Beetles Week of January 21: Tiger Beetles Week of January 28: Centipedes Week of February 4: Bumblebees Week of February 11: Earwigs Week of February 18: Cicadas Week of February 25: Stink Bugs Week of March 3: Ringneck Snakes Week of March 10: Poison Dart Frogs Week of March 17: Swallowtail Butterflies Week of March 24: Katydids Week of March 31: Dragonflies Learners are more than welcome to request their favorite insects, arachnids, or other arthropods as well!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Being an avid hiker, backpacker, and camper, I've always had an interest in the natural world around me. Entomology, in particular, has been one of my favorite hobbies, and my real interest in it began in elementary school. A lifelong passion in bugs has given me a deeper understanding of the ecosystems around me, and it has allowed me to appreciate the smaller parts of nature, as well.
