Slithery, sneaking, ssssnakes... Snakes, by and large, get a bad rap. Many people have a deep fear of these reptiles - despite not knowing much about them. In this class, we will discuss: - How snakes evolved - Where snakes are found - What kind of snakes there are - What adaptations snakes have - What threats snakes face All with the goal in mind to provide a deeper understanding of these wonderful creatures. Learners will be introduced to these topics within herpetology via an interactive lecture featuring slides, photos, and videos.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about the biology, taxonomy, and evolution of snakes such as cobras, pythons, & more.

All slides, photos, and videos will be used via screenshare only. Students will not be required to view these on their own.

Oliver Dunn is a zoologist who focuses on conservation through education by working in the zoo and aquarium field. A lifelong animal conservationist, Oliver has helped with projects around the world from rehabilitating injured seabirds in South Africa to tracking tigers in central India. Their involvement in the zoological community has so far spanned 15 years and has included such positions as Keeper Aide at the Memphis Zoo to Migratory Bird Researcher at the Smithsonian. When not conducting research or at work, Oliver does creative forms of science communication through Twitter, YouTube, and even in person at scientific gatherings such as EarthX.
