What's included

Welcome to Creativity Club, where learners can make friends, practice their drawing skills, and improve their writing capability! During class, learners will engage in a variety of directed drawing and writing. In a small group setting, learners will learn about form and construction using basic shapes to create a drawing of characters and creatures. They will practice the writing process through different types of writing, have some writing time, share their writing with me and their peers, and receive positive feedback and writing tips! Class will begin with some social time and an introduction to the week's theme. Then, we will practice drawing. Quick drawers should have extra paper. On the extra paper, they can brainstorm ideas for their writing piece using sensory details. I want every learner to have enough time to draw without feeling rushed. After we have complete the directed drawing, learners may write a story about their drawing. We may also share a fun read aloud that goes along with the drawing. Learners can use the story to inspire their writing if they so choose. If time allows, we will practice editing and revising our work, sharing our work with others, and discussing Glows (what we did well) and Grows (something we can improve). This class is wonderful for both the reluctant writer and the child who loves to write. If learners run into "writer's block", we have a quick conversation about the prompt and that will help them get their thoughts on paper. Learners will engage in drawing, writing, and conversation. Hello! I am Kristen Galloway. I am a curious life long learner, and I want to share my love of learning with others! I am passionate about making learning fun, engaging, and relevant. I want to meet each child where they are developmentally and be a part of their journey of discovery. With a background in general education, I love to teach lessons that incorporate reading, writing, math, science, social studies. Learners should feel comfortable and welcome in the classroom. I think it is important to make learning a personal experience for each learner. I encourage each student to share their thinking. I work create a space where learners feel comfortable to learn. In order for every child to flourish they need to be seen, heard, and loved.
I believe in building relationships with my students and making learning engaging and connected to their lives. I use a multi-sensory approach to learning. I incorporate multiple domains throughout my lessons. I love to have fun in the classroom through conversations, games, and hands-on learning.
