Poetry is a type of literature, or artistic writing, that attempts to stir a reader's imagination or emotions. The poet does this by carefully choosing and arranging language for its meaning, sound, and rhythm. Some poems, such as nursery rhymes, are simple and humorous. In this session, learners will discover various types of poetry and aspects of who they are through their creations. Learners will create a Dada poem in session 1 and a Blackout Poem in session 2. To meet the needs of all learning styles, I will use the Nearpod interactive platform that will actively engage each learner and provide multiple detailed videos with step-by-step examples. The learners begin by watching an introduction video, then try out writing a different form of poetry described in the article. In addition, students build knowledge of poetic craft and structures through close reading of a selection of poems. Learners will work in real time with other learners and receive assistance as needed. Before closing out, students will share their poems in Flipgrid, where they will create a short 30-60 second video. Students will need to be able to independently cut, glue, and upload their video into Flipgrid. I will provide the link/access code before we meet.
Learning Goals
Learners will:
-Utilize articles from newspapers, books, and/or magazines to create a nonsense poem

-Organize words to create the poem
-Structure words to create the poem
