Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 4
In "Creative Writing: World Beach Month (September) Writing Camp," students will use engaging, beach-themed writing prompts to write their own creative short story each week.

In class each week, students will be given a specific writing prompt, take time to brainstorm ideas aloud, write a short story, then share it with the class.

This class will meet once a week for a total of four weeks.

Week 1: Monday, September 4 to Sunday, September 10
 - Writing Prompt: The House That Herman Built

Week 2: Monday, September 11 to Sunday, September 17
- Writing Prompt: Message in a Bottle

Week 3: Monday, September 18 to Sunday, September 24
- Writing Prompt: Three Wishes

Week 4: Monday, September 25 to Sunday, October 1
- Writing Prompt: Seaside Sand-wich

Class activities include:

- Introduction / Get to Know You Question

- Discuss and brainstorm ideas for the writing prompt
The teacher will facilitate a time of brainstorming and answering questions about the writing prompt to help students develop ideas for their story before writing.

- Writing time
Students will be given 15-25 minutes to write their stories. The time given varies based on the number of students in class and how long other activities take. Most weeks, most class sections will have 20-25 minutes, but never less than 15. Students are encouraged to write as much as they can in the time they have and are reminded that it is okay if their story is not completely finished when time is up.

- Sharing time
Students are encouraged to read their stories aloud (though not required). The teacher and students will offer positive comments, emojis, and reactions to each other.

*Please note: Though this writing class may be helpful to your learner, it makes no promise of improving your learner's writing abilities, spelling, grammar, or English language skills.
Learning Goals
Students will gain practice and experience in writing short stories, oral reading and speaking, and expanding their imaginations as they create their own stories.
