In this advanced course students will learn how to express feelings through body language, dialogue, thought, visceral reactions and mood-rich descriptions. We will discuss how to layer emotions and vary their intensity. I will also show learners how to subtly reveal a character's secret or suppressed emotions. These skills are important because they create in the reader the same emotions experienced by the character. Students will benefit most during class if they bring a scene to class...
Students will learn how to express their characters feelings through body language, dialogue, thought, visceral reactions and mood-rich descriptions. We will also learn how to layer emotions and vary their intensity. Learners will be able to subtly reveal a character's secret or suppressed emotions.
Students will benefit most from this course if they bring a scene to class where their character is experiencing an intense emotion. Parents are welcome to message me if their student would like a writing prompt to work from.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
In this class we will be editing students' writing via the techniques learned in class. If your student is sensitive about their writing ability, looking for ways to strengthen their writing may be off putting, or hurt their confidence. While this group is meant to support writers, some students who are just discovering their passion, or who are sensitive to constructive criticism, may need to start with a more basic class.
