Description

Class Experience

Students will learn what creative writing is, and four of the main topics to get started in developing their creative works. They will also learn how to collaborate with peers and feel comfortable sharing their writing with peers for feedback, and giving feedback each week.
I have an Associate of Arts degree in Psychology, a Bachelor's degree in English with a minor in Creative Writing, and a Master of Arts degree in Teaching. I have been writing academically and creatively for over 10 years, and have been teaching writing to all ages (both in-person and virtually) for over 10 years as well.
Each week will cover a different topic in creative writing. Within that topic, students will be asked to do some practice writing based on the weekly video and materials sent out and the prompts given following each weekly topic. They will also be required to comment a strength and improvement of another peer's writing each week as well.

Week 1 Homework: answer practice prompts for purpose/audience, respond to a peer's writing
Week 2 Homework: answer practice prompts for characterization, respond to a peer's writing
Week 3 Homework: answer practice prompts for conflict, respond to a peer's writing
Week 4 Homework: answer practice prompts for dialogue, respond to a peer's writing
There are no required supplies for the entire class. However, if students prefer to write with a pen/pencil and paper, they can certainly do so, they just need to post a picture of their writing to the class each week for their assignments rather than typing it out.
Learners will be assessed formatively based on their responses each week. They will be assessed on how their writing follows the weekly requirements of the prompt, as well as the quality of their feedback to their peers.
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
