For a reader to become engaged with your story you need to create compelling characters whom the reader cares about deeply. During this two part course we will talk about how to invent individuals who are so real they jump off the page. These characters will stick in your readers mind long after they have finished your story. This class is meant for students who already understand the importance of characterization, but would like to explore the topic in more depth. During class students...
Students will improve their understanding of characterization and will be able to use the tools learned in our class to make more vivid, life-like characters whom readers will love, fear, and remember.
Students should think about a character they want to work on in class. However, if they want to start from scratch, that's okay too.
1 hour 40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
In this class we will be editing students' writing via the techniques learned in class. If your student is sensitive about their writing ability, looking for ways to strengthen their writing may be off putting, or hurt their confidence. While this group is meant to support writers, some students who are just discovering their passion, or who are sensitive to constructive criticism, may need to start with a more basic class.
