Students in this class will read poems and use them as inspiration for their own writing. We will learn a new creative writing term in each class and theme the reading and writing warm-ups around the term. My favorite terms include rhythm, imagery, and couplets. Some classes, we focus on a particular form of poetry, such as the Sonnet. Typical Workshop Timeframe: 5 min: Students and Teacher introduce themselves 10 min: Read and discuss a sample poem 10 min: Writing Warm-Up -- usually a collaborative exercise or game to get ready to write 15 min: Poem Writing Time -- quiet time to write with a few check-ins from me, and of course students can ask questions! 15 min: Sharing and Feedback -- learners take turns sharing their poem and giving positive and constructive feedback (e.g. one thing that's awesome and one thing that could change)
