Description
Class Experience
Each week, students will receive a short story prompt along with some general writing guidance-- like how to create interesting characters, how to pace your story, and how to use words wisely to make your story shine. Each student will then create a short story based on the prompt and share it in the classroom. They will receive feedback and advice in the next live meeting, both from myself and from other students. I work hard to give very detailed, constructive feedback to both encourage and...
Students will create three different short stories over the course of this class.
I am the author of fifteen books for tweens and teens, and have taught creative writing classes across the country at schools, libraries, colleges, and camps.
Students will have one week to write each story; they must be posted to the classroom at least 24 hours before the next live meeting.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
Below are my general classroom rules and policies. These will also be explained to students when we begin class! -For everyone's safety, and to ensure an engaging and social experience, students are required to have working microphones and video for the entirety of this class, positioned such that we can both hear and see them. -Students are asked not to use filters or virtual backgrounds-- though if there is an important reason to use a virtual background, please just let me know ahead of time that your student will be using one (no questions asked!). -Students will be asked to introduce themselves by sharing their name, pronoun, and a favorite book. -The Zoom text chat is set to "host only", meaning students can chat with me, but not to one another or the entire classroom.
