US Grade 5 - 8
This writing camp is designed for students who enjoy crafting stories, building worlds, and creating characters. The class will be held for four consecutive days, and each session will be divided into two 40-minute sections with a 10-minute break, totaling 90 minutes. Always check the schedule if the session falls over a holiday or weekend. Here is an overview of the class schedule: Day 1: We will begin with short writing prompts and discuss character development, including how different character traits influence a character.. Each student can create two short character descriptions from a set of 16 characters/people. Day 2: We will explore different genres, including fantasy, ghost, sci-fi, horror, and romance. The class will include information and activities to promote writing. Day 3: We will cover how to use memories to bring our writing to life and how to describe things and places we have never experienced. I will also use Google Maps to show a location in the world as we discuss how to describe a place we have never visited. Day 4: We will focus on how to create a timeline or outline for our stories and overcoming writer's block. As a writing enthusiast, I believe all writers can inspire others to become better writers. If the student chooses, they can write a first chapter as homework and submit it in the classroom or in a a message for teacher feedback. If the student wishes to receive constructive teacher feedback on the writing done during the live class meetings, the student needs to send it to the teacher after class in a message using the Outschool platform. No peer feedback is required to be given during the class. Students will have the opportunity to do some writing every day in class, but no one will be required to share their work. Students who prefer to write by hand will need a notebook or paper and a pen/pencil.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in personal experience. Growing up with dysgraphia, I encountered teachers who left me feeling uncomfortable, insecure, and inadequate. Those experiences shaped my commitment to creating an environment where every student feels welcome, confident, and supported. My goal is to build students up, ensuring they leave my classes with both knowledge and self-assurance.
As a teacher, I bring a wide array of subjects to life in my classes, ranging from creative writing and Swedish (my native language) to world religions, the Holocaust, and novel studies with a focus on folklore. Each subject reflects my passions and areas of expertise, offering students a rich and dynamic learning experience.
With a master’s degree in education and a double major in social and political science and world religions, my professional background equips me to guide students through diverse and complex topics. Having taught across various age groups in Sweden and now the USA, I also incorporate the principles of student democracy, encouraging students to take an active role in shaping their own learning journey.
On a personal note, I’ve always had a vivid imagination—perhaps a result of my Nordic upbringing. As a child in Sweden, I was fascinated yet terrified by the stories of fairies that pervade our folklore. Now, as an immigrant in the USA, I weave that sense of wonder into my own creative works, which have earned me awards for poetry and short stories.
