Creative Writing Sprints with a Published Author

Sarah Dooley, author of four award-winning novels for middle grade readers (and also a certified teacher!), will lead writers through an exercise designed to teach them how to maximize small windows of writing time they're able to carve out of their day. In this exercise, students will provide two or three interesting words to add to a spinner. We will spin five times, each time picking a new word and writing about that word for a different window of time. Although it's not required, students will have a chance to share what they wrote if they would like! After our five writing sprints, we will pick the result of one of those sprints and spend five minutes further developing it into a story idea. There will also be time for questions about writing as a career.
