US Grade 2 - 4
I created this class to offer a chance for learners to write interesting pieces while learning about different genres of writing in a safe and supportive environment. This class is a "step-up" from my Creative Writing for Beginning Writers class and was created for more fluent writers. Each week, I will provide learners with an engaging writing prompt. We might write a descriptive piece about their dream bedroom, re-write a popular fairy tale, or write a newspaper article about a recent event in their lives. We will look at the key features of the genre and discuss a target for our writing. Students will then write independently, while receiving individual guidance, support and feedback from the teacher. At the end of class, and depending on time, learners will share their pieces. I will provide feedback to learners both in the class setting, and through MAIL or the CLASSROOM if learners wish to send me their pieces. Learners should have mastered basic convention skills like end punctuation, capitalization and sentence structure. Learners should be able to write somewhat independently, but I will ALWAYS help and support each child's needs. Perfect spelling is not required and "Best Try" spelling will be encouraged. Each of these classes is a stand alone class. Class Breakdown 1. Introductions and Warm-Up. 2. Introduction of genre, skill and weekly target. 3. Independent writing time with teacher support. 4. Sharing Time-Please note that we may not have time for all students to share each week. After class, you may send me your pieces for individual feedback.
