By the end of the class, students will be able to tell the difference between "showing" and "telling" in their creative writing.
Writing and teaching are my greatest passions! I love to read well-crafted novels, short stories, and other types of creative writing. For me, what makes one piece of writing stand out from the rest is the writer's use of "showing" vs. "telling". I love it when an author shows me how windy it was rather than simply saying "It was windy". Descriptive language is the key component of "showing" vs. "telling". Once a writer learns the concept of "showing" vs. "telling," it can help improve his or her creative work and help enhance the reader's enjoyment and experience. I am a self-published author of a novella and I'm working on a novel which I hope to have traditionally published later this year.
Students will only need a pen or pencil and a piece of paper.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
