During this creative writing session, students will be given time to write taking risks in their craft inspired by a given prompt. As time allows, students will have an opportunity to read their work and comment on others. As the teacher, I will ensure a safe and positive environment empowering the student as a true writer as well as teach relevant writing elements as I identify them in students' responses. In order for students to feel good about creative writing and grow in their craft, all students will need to adhere to the norms of the class guided by the Amherst Writers and Artists workshop method. The AWA method is effective thus has formed the structure of the class and my teaching style. The norms are listed below. 1. Adhere to the writing group norms. 2. All pieces shared will be treated like fiction. 3. Criticism, suggestions, and questions are not allowed. 4. Take the session and the work of others seriously. 5. The teacher will always write with you. This is a one-time class, but sessions like this with a different prompt each will be posted for those students who wish to continue the practice of writing at anytime in the future. All students will need are themselves; journal or paper; and a pen or pencil.
Learning Goals
