Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
Sometimes all writers need is a little inspiration to get them started. Each day of this class will begin with a writing tip to help learners with their writing, followed by a writing prompt. Learners will spend most of the time in class writing based on the prompt, then at the end of class they will be given the opportunity to read or summarize what they have written if they choose to. Learners can also submit their writing for feedback to the teacher between classes if they choose as well.

Day 1: General Prompt: Learners will be given a fiction and nonfiction prompt for them to write
Day 2: Situation Prompt: Learners will be given a situation and write a story based on the situation
Day 3: One Sentence Prompt: Learners will be given a sentence that they must incorporate somewhere in their story
Day 4: Picture Prompt: Learners will be shown a picture that they must use as inspiration and incorporate somehow into their story

Please note, there will be no or little instruction for the writing process in this class. This class is a creative outlet for learners and to give them ideas for their own writing. If they want feedback or editing on something they have written they can submit it to the teacher.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a former Home School student who has never stopped learning! I love history and telling stories verbally and through writing, and I want to share that passion with others. I believe the statement is true: “Those who don’t learn from History are doomed to repeat it.” We need to learn from the past to shape our own futures and the world in general. I believe the best way to learn about history is to learn about the people who lived through it and what they experienced and tell their stories. I love telling stories through writing and enjoy public speaking, so storytelling is a natural combination of the two.

I have 4 years of teaching experience in a variety of places from teaching/coaching drama and dance for homeschoolers in a group setting, to homeschooling two young children for a few months, to teaching English as Second Language (ESL) to college students, to teaching Arts and Crafts at a Summer Camp. I am currently a ESL teacher online with VIPKid. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Communication from Stevenson University.

I love to travel both in the US and internationally. I’ve spent time in almost every state on the East Coast and driven through the rest. I’ve visited seven different countries and lived in Asia for 17 months.
