Creative Writing: Poetry Writing: Shape Poems
Debbie Davey Fukuda, M.Ed.
One-time poetry writing class where students write a shape poem.
US Grade 2 - 4
This poem combines poetry with drawing. Students will create a shape poem. It's a poem that is in the shape of what it is describing. For example, a poem about a heart would be formed into the shape of a heart or a poem about a rainbow might be in the shape of a rainbow. Students will read mentor texts of other shape poems. Then, they will draw an object and then create a poem. Students who love art or writing will love this class. Learners can really get their imaginations going in this...
Students will learn about the shape poem, develop vocabulary skills and work on sentence structure.
Homework OfferedThere will not be homework
Assessments OfferedStudents will be able to share their poems and read them.
Students should bring a pencil, markers and an imagination.
