Creative Writing & Poetry: P.A.I.N.T. with Your Words (8-11)
Using words instead of paint and a brush, your student’s writing will come alive in bursts of color as he or she learns to create a picture in the reader’s mind. We begin by learning good writing techniques, then end by writing poetry.

• Descriptive writing using sensory words and strong verbs and adjective • Creative Writing: Showing vs. telling, passive vs. active writing • Creative Writing: Figurative language; hyperbole, personification, similes, metaphors, etc. • Poetry: Lantern, Stair poetry, Haiku and Cinquain, how a poem is really a short story that paints a picture in the reader's mind so we must choose the best words possible to paint a picture with our words.
I'm a published author who developed these creative writing techniques when I started teaching an elective course at my kids' school over 10 years ago. I found that many students didn't know how to write creatively and bring the picture in their mind to the paper, so I designed a program for children using the techniques I used as an author. What parents are saying: Gina is a phenomenal writing teacher! We have loved working with her. We have a range of ages and she is great at adapting to their ages and learning styles. She's very patient and good at helping them focus. My kids have learned so much and been stretched and challenged in the area of writing. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to advance in any area of writing! - Bethany mother of K, 1, 3, 4 tutored students.
Homework will be to finish the assignments we are working on in class for further reinforcement.
P.A.I.N.T. with Your Words worksheet pages are provided and will be uploaded each week. Learners should have a folder to keep the worksheets in and they should be printed off before class begins. About Me
I love seeing students get excited about writing, even reluctant writers. Ever since I was 8 years old, I've been journaling and writing poetry to express things I couldn't speak out loud or didn't know how to. My thoughts just came out better...
