Creative Writing: Once Upon a Picture

Students will follow a four step procedure to guide them through the creative writing process. 

Step 1- Look at the picture 
(Students will view a fun and engaging age-appropriate image and brainstorm some key factors that they may see.)

Step 2- Let your imagination go wild 
(Students will use the image and our observations to begin thinking about a story.)

Step 3- Write a short story based on the picture 
(Students will have 10-15 minutes to write their story.)

Step 4- Share your story with the class
(Students will share their stories with the class and give positive feedback to one another.)

Each class, two new and exciting images will be presented to generate new story ideas. 
Example:
Week 1- Day 1- Writing from image, "Morning Surprise" and  "Inside The Cave" 
Week 1- Day 2- Writing from image, "Cat School" and  "Crazy Creatures" 
Week 2- Day 3- Writing from image, "Dragons and Magic" and  "Above the Sky" 
Week 2- Day 4- Writing from image, "On and In the Water"
