In this short course, students will be given prompts, will participate in discussions, and will write a reflection based on the topic of the day.

Description

Class Experience

Critical thinking skills have been stunted by multiple-choice tests, memorizing and regurgitation, and the grading system, and as a result, we are creating robots and not humans. Words and ideas are powerful and need to be explored. In this class, students will be challenged to read, infer, synthesize, and consider many ideas but coming up with their own truths about things. 

Using prompts, visuals, and passages, mixed with conversations, we will write responses and reflections. This will...

Students will analyze photos, passages, etc, and write a creative response to the topic of the day. 

Students will demonstrate understanding by writing a creative reflection.

Students will engage in discussions and synthesize works through writing.

Students will complete writing if not finished in class.

1 hour 40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.

Photos, passages, and other materials will be used that talk about bullying, slavery, rights/activism, bias, race, religion, civil rights, immigration, and more.
