Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this class, we will briefly go over what creative writing is and then we will segue into the group part. There are several strategies students can use when writing creatively, and we will go over a couple before getting started. This class will start with a brief talk about creative writing before jumping in with both hands (see what I did there?). We will then build off either of the strategies offered (to be selected by the learner) in order to begin writing something new and exciting— not to mention of interest in the learner. I have been something of an author since I was in early high school when I had a composition notebook that I wrapped in duct tape. I was bored during a class where I was a teacher's aide, and I started writing a story about a son of Hades who was born into the world of Greek mythology... not unlike Percy Jackson but with more than a few twists. As the years went on, I completed about ten novels and am now eagerly waiting on the professional cover for my first book to be published "The Gold Standard". Students will get generalized and specific instruction based on student need. If students are interested in continuing the work they began here, I encourage them to take my full Creative Writing course.
Learning Goals
Students will write narrative compositions that engage and orient the reader by establish context, point of view, and introducing a narrator.
Students will use narrative techniques such as dialogue, pacing, descriptive details, and sensory language to portray action and convey experiences and events.
