(Prerequisites to this course - Students must have taken Part 1 AND at least one of Parts 2, 3 or 4.) In this continuing series, we will move from free, creative writing time to spending some time looking at the mechanics of writing. Using the Part 1 format about describing an animal, we will describe an animal and discuss the use of a topic sentence and a closing sentence. We will talk about the details of the story and how they are found in between the topic and closing sentence. We will indent the paragraph, check for capitalization and ending punctuation, learn about the use of commas in a series and also learn how to properly include dialogue in a story. Students must have taken Part 1 in this writing series as well as at least one section of Part 2, 3, or 4 before taking Part 5. Part 5 is very different than Parts 1-4 so it might be helpful if you let your child know that ahead of time. Your child will have a complete story at the end of class, but due to time constraints with our instruction, this story may not be as long as perhaps the Parts 2-4 stories were - depending on the student. Looking forward to working with your child! Let me know if you have any questions! If you do not see a time on my schedule that works for you, feel free to reach out to me. Also, if you would like my Saturday option, just send me a request.
