Creative Writing for Young Children Part 1 Spring Break Camp

This camp is for students who have not yet taken any of the writing courses with this teacher.  If your child has already taken writing classes with this teacher, please reach out to the teacher and see if this camp is still recommended for your child. 

This is a 4 day camp for ages 6-8 who are just beginning to write. (Please note the schedule carefully - not all days listed are always consecutive.) Each day we will simply create a story together as a class. The teacher will model writing sentences as the story develops.  We will end each class with a very short, completed written class story.   The students will be encouraged to personalize each story as they go by adding some unique details to their story. Students will have the opportunity to share their stories with the class and they will be encouraged to read the stories to their family after class. 

For this camp, students need to have the ability to put words down on paper. Spelling words correctly is not critical at this point; simply having the ability to sound out words and write them down is all that is necessary. This camp works best for students who are reluctant writers. If the student is already excited about writing, I recommend my 2 day Creative Writing for Young Children Part 1 course. 

FIve year olds and nine year olds are welcome to participate in this camp if the parent feels that this class is a good fit for them. Five year olds need to be comfortable with basic reading and also comfortable with copying and writing words down.
