Creative Writing for Upper Elementary Students

This is a course all writing lovers! We will have creative and fun prompts where it will give the students the opportunity to think back on their experiences and how to apply that memory into their writings and following convention rules.

Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
Beginner - Advanced Level
Each week, the learners will be given a prompt and a focus of the week that centralizes around grammar. The focuses will include complete sentences, verbs, nouns, capitalization, and much more. The prompts will give the learner the opportunity to think through their experiences and through their imagination and creativity. I will post a video of the prompt of the week and explain the focus of the week. I will also post a video or document of an example that will demonstrate the focus of the week.  When the learner submits their writing, I will give feedback based on the content and if the focus was implemented in the writing.
Learning Goals
The learning goal for this course is for learners to use their background knowledge (experiences) and their creativity and apply it into their writings while following the grammar rules which builds their confidence of being a great writer.

Lesson 1:
A Safe Place
 Have you  ever felt safe when you are outside? What about unsafe? I want you to think about where in nature you feel safest or where you feel unsafe and why. When writing your paper, I want you to focus on including descriptive words.

Giving/ Receiving Good Advice
 Have you ever given a friend or family member some good advice? Has someone ever given you some good advice? I want you to write about a time when someone gave you advice. Who gave you the advice and was it good advice? While writing your paper, I want you to focus on including verbs.

Lesson 3:
Favorite Season
 I want you to write about your favorite season and why it is your favorite. When writing your paper, I want you to focus on capitalizing appropriate words.

Proudest Achievement
 What was your proudest achievement? Did you learn something new, or meet an academic goal? Write about your proudest or biggest achievement, and how you felt about it. While writing your paper, I want you to focus on applying appropriate punctuation marks.
