A great story starts with good characters, a great setting, and imagination. In this 10 week class, you'll learn all about storytelling from start to finish, and everything in between.
Class Experience
Writing is a great way to begin to express the stories within, whether that's in story form, poetry, or scripts/screenwriting. Stories have been important for all cultures throughout history, in many different ways and forms. They help us relate to one another and shape the culture around us. This class is a great opportunity for students to practice their storytelling and development skills. Stories have been important for different cultures all over the world for centuries. Students will expand their understanding of various aspects of storytelling for scripts, short stories, novels, and more, including: brainstorming, characterization, world-development, outlining, story sequencing, drafting, and more.
I am an author, blogger, and editor. I have over 10 years experience to gain experience and connections in the field of writing and publishing. My works include fiction and non fiction. I have such a huge passion for writing, reading, and story in general.
There will be activities and assignments for each of the sections, including: brainstorming, characterization, world building, outlining, story sequencing, drafting, and editing.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
There will be no formal assessment, but each project along the way gives the student a chance to practice and build on what is learned in each section.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
While I do not plan on focusing on any mature material - this is a creative writing class. As such, we will discuss different kinds of literature, different literary stories, different characters, and student stories. I do tailor some of my responses to the students' interests. The stories discussed may include: violence, death, and mystery. None of these issues will be the focus, but they may show up in the class. If you have a learner on the younger range of the class, and have more questions, please do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have.
