Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 4
(If this your your child's first time with this teacher and the student is 6 or 7 years old, the student is required to take Part 1 first. Please message the teacher for the link. Eight, nine and ten year olds are welcome to take this course as a first time class with the teacher.)
Creative Writing for Children is a course that is designed to jumpstart your child in writing. This weekly class is built around six weekly prompts for children who need some help getting started with writing or even students who find much enjoyment in writing. The teacher will show the students the picture prompt and will lead the class in a discussion around the prompt. The students will either be given a starter sentence or ideas for a starter sentence if they need it and then they will add their own personal details to the story as the story develops. Students will have the opportunity to share their stories with the class and are welcome to read the stories to their family after class.

Six and seven year old students must have taken one or two days of Creative Writing for Young Children Part 1 before enrolling in this class. Please message the teacher if you need a link for Part 1.

This class is perfect for advanced writers who love to create short stories, but they just need to be provided with writing time and ideas and perhaps some help with spelling. Also, if they reach a road block in their story and are not sure what to say next, the teacher will provide ideas.

This class is also perfect for students who need help getting started with writing. The teacher will provide enough ideas and help and encouragement where the student will gradually begin to feel more comfortable with writing.

After teaching this Creative Writing Series to more than 1,500 students, these are some general principles that have been noticed by the teacher:
1. Students who did not enjoy writing have fun in this class.
2. Students who love to write have fun in this class.
3. ESL students benefit because of the immersion in the English language.
4. Students that need help with sentence structure will receive that help in this class and become immersed in good writing.
5. Students receive help organizing their ideas into a written format.
6. Students gain confidence in their writing skills and realize that they CAN write.

This class does not provide formal writing instruction in class. The teacher's Editing Self Paced class (which can be taken in conjunction with this course) will help students with editing skills such as punctuation, capitalization, sentence structure, grammar and overall improvement in writing skills. Students can spend several weeks writing with the teacher in this live class and then enroll in the Editing class to refine specific editing skills. A discount is given for the Editing class if the two classes are taken in conjunction with each other. Message the teacher if you have any questions. (The Editing class is only for students 8 years old and up.)
