Class Experience

Focussing on what we feel thankful for on a regular basis can have a big positive effects on our minds & bodies, while also having the potential to make us feel happy, calm and joyful.

There are many benefits to starting gratitude journals, including helping us gain new perspectives of what is important to us, and what we truly appreciate in life, while learning more about ourselves and becoming self-aware in a safe space. We are also able to go back and read the journal at times when we may feel down, as a reminder of the goodness in our lives, which may help to feel better.

Content :
I have put together a fun Gratitude & Affirmation themed slideshow presentation, with plenty of pictures and question prompts throughout the class, to engage learners in thoughtful discussions, and inspire their writing and drawing.

Every journal made by each student will be unique - I will help students brainstorm things they may be grateful for in their own lives while also providing examples of entries they might want to write.

Examples of gratitude writing may be:
"I am grateful to have wonderful people like my family and friends in my life, who I can talk to when Im both happy and sad. People who go on adventures to the beach and park with me, play outdoor games with me and teach me new things all the time. We can be silly and laugh together a lot too!"

“I am grateful for the sun because it helps trees and flowers grow, and it makes me feel warm on my skin”

A section of the class is dedicated to writing positive affirmations where students write in their journals, statements which act as reminders of the positive aspects of themselves and how we want to be.

Some examples of a positive affirmations may be:

I can accomplish anything I put my mind to
I am very creative, my mind is full of brilliant ideas
I feel proud of myself when I [fill in the blank]

There is also an option for students to write a gratitude letter to someone close to them: a family member, friend, their pet, toy or themselves!

Students may choose to share what they have written, and drawn, but this is completely up to them - it it not a requirement of the class.
