😃 Hey Outschool! We're going to have so much fun in this creative writing club! My name is Teacher Taylor, and I can't wait to celebrate all things winter with learners on Outschool! I am a Middle Level PA Certified teacher who has spent most of my career teaching 6th grade Language Arts. I am super passionate about helping students LOVE writing! I am confident that your child will not only learn some new techniques to improve his or her writing, but have a bunch of fun as well. 

In this ongoing club, we will-

😄 Focus on making friends and being social! Each week, students will have the opportunity to share something fun about their week to connect with one another.

✏️Have SO MUCH FUN writing together and sharing our ideas! We will spend the majority of the class doing a fun free write. This is detailed below.

Teacher Taylor will present a SUPER SILLY sentence starter.

🎵Week of January 29 Sentence Starter- We got out the tambourine and....

☃️ Week of February 5 Sentence Starter- The snowman put on a silk hat, and then I saw him....

👣 Week of February 12 Sentence Starter- The footprints in the snow were clearly from....

I like each week's starter to be a surprise for the students so they have to use critical thinking skills and think on the spot. I am happy to provide them in advance to parents if requested. I always make sure the topics are fun and age-appropriate. I also remind students to keep their writing this way during each club session as well.

After presenting the SUPER SILLY sentence starter, Teacher Taylor will set a timer (usually around 8-10 minutes) and can play instrumental music if the students like this. During this five minutes, students will be asked to get out paper and use the silly sentence starter to finish the story. There is no specific expectation about how long this writing is, but that students:

💡Try their best
🌈Use their imagination
😊Have fun while writing

This club is great for students of all ages 9-12 and all writing abilities. 

For the last part of the club each week, Teacher Taylor will ask for volunteers to share out their silly stories. I have found that even shy students and those who aren't typically "writers" are so excited to do this because their story is unique and fun, and they are proud of it. I love seeing this! ❤️

Sometimes, time will also permit to have students give others feedback about their writing. This will be a positive experience and students will learn to be helpful and kind while providing suggestions to add additional details or next sentences to another students' writing. 

This club not only helps develop students' writing, but also helps with social skills, building friendships, and confidence.
