Do you know how to create a great character? What makes a setting feel real? Can you do this in 1000 words or less? Perhaps 750 words? Or 500 words! Join us for this and MORE in this weekly writing club. The challenge: at the start of class students will receive one line to begin their short piece. Use this first line and let your imagination run wild. Grab your favorite journal and writing tool and take your reader on a creative writing adventure. Remember: ‘show don’t tell.' Each class...
Students will improve their craft in flash fiction. By extension, develop secondary skills like communication and reading comprehension.
Outside of class: Students are encouraged to build upon something they may have written in class.
Students are encouraged to bring a journal and writing tool of their choice.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Class progress is measured in two ways. Collectively: by way of class discussion, students will engage in thoughtful and constructive feedback. We will go over a code of conduct for providing a welcoming environment that allows for healthy discussion and constructive criticism. Individually: students will complete one short creative writing sample each class.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
