What's included

4 live meetings

Homework
1 hour per week. Each week they will be assigned a task to complete on their short story. This will be done individually. This task should take 30 minutes to complete. However I have found in my own experience that when you find something you are excited to write about you may take longer when the creativity is flowing.
Assessment
The final class the student will present the short story in class.

Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
In this 4 week ongoing class each student will learn how to write a short story. We will meet once a week. The student will learn how to use their imaginations to create a story idea. Some techniques I will use to foster creativity will be journaling as well as conversation ideas in class to get the student ideas focused. Each lesson will build upon the previous lesson. Your student will be able to share their ideas in class and get feedback and help each week as they work towards the end goal of their finished short story. As an English major in college I loved creative writing. I taught creative writing during my career as a high school English teacher. I am currently writing a novel. I decided to offer this class to help young writers find a love for creative writing. I like to have fun in class. I am laid back but structured. I feel the best way to engage students is to keep learning fun. My goal is that your student will develop a love for creative writing and have a short story they have written to fuel their passion for writing in the years to come.

Hello and welcome to my profile! I have been a teacher with Outschool since 2020. I enjoy teaching students of all ages. Some of my specialties include preparing Pre-K children for Kindergarten both academically as well as socially. I also enjoy teaching ESL to students from all over the world. I enjoy making learning fun. My snowman Snowy engages the students each week with his mail that he sends to the children. Snowy is just one of the unique ways we have fun in class while learning. I truly believe that children need to have fun while learning in order for the concept to really sink in and be understood.

I graduated from UNCW with a Bachelor's Degree in English. After college I started my teaching career as a high school English teacher. I left the profession to raise my four children. I decided to return to my career and have enjoyed teaching many years as a Pre-K teacher.
I am also an online ESL ( English as a Second Language) teacher with VIPKid. I enjoy getting to know my students both in the United States and all over the world!

I love snow! This is something that the kids always seem to really enjoy. I love hearing the children laugh and seeing those precious smiles while we enjoy learning together. My husband and children love to travel. We enjoy camping all over the USA. I also have a black lab named Snowflake and a cat named Chloe. I hope to see your child in class soon!
