School might be out but that doesn’t mean writing should end! In fact, summer is the perfect time to enjoy the craft of writing while building essential skills as successful writers. This weekly club is ideal for any level of writer to develop confidence and have fun by writing about topics they enjoy. Throughout this ongoing class writers will spiral through different weekly themes. Each class will be structured with a warm up, focused writing activity, time for drafting and the option to...
Writers will practice the brainstorming and drafting stages of the writing process. Writers will practice the traits of ideas and organization by developing characters and integrating plot elements into superhero themed stories. Writers will practice sharing their ideas and listening to others. Writers will be nurtured with a love of writing surrounded by a community of young authors.
I hold a Master of Arts in Teaching with coursework connected to the National Writing Project and have experience as a middle school language arts teacher.
Writers will be encouraged to continue writing beyond class.
Writers will need a notebook dedicated to writing and a pen/pencil for each class. The week of June 28th writers will need a blank sheet of printer paper and colored pencils.
Writers will be encouraged to continue developing their stories and will have the option to send the teacher an image attachment for feedback.
40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
