Join us each week to share your progress, get feedback from other writers, and be inspired and challenged to grow as an author. - Students will plan and complete a work of fiction. - Students will learn to share their writing with a community and advocate for their perspective and authorial voice. - Students will engage in positive critique and question and answer sessions. - Students will develop in their writing skills and confidence.
I've been a writing teacher for more than thirteen years and have written nine novels, numerous short stories, and several role playing games. I have a lot of experience as not only an author, but a collaborator and coach for creative storytelling. I have held workshops for jumpstarting creative writing at multiple conventions, ranging from small 5 person writing intensives to presentations to an audience of over 200 aspiring authors.
Students are encouraged to upload their writing to the Outschool classroom.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Students will share their writing, so there is always the chance that a student may share something inappropriate (violent, intense emotions, etc.) Rather than confronting students directly, I will generally ask probing questions to get them to explain why they wrote something that walked (or crossed) the line of school-appropriate writing. We are here to learn from one another and sometimes creating art requires reaching for deeply held emotions.
