Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 5
There will be time at the beginning of class for students to show off and introduce their pet, or talk about the pet they want to get someday.

During class students will be introduced to the Beginning/Middle/End anchor chart, and I will demonstrate how to use it to develop an exciting creative writing piece. I will give the students a handful of writing prompts to help spark their imagination, and then they will have an opportunity to write about their pets using these prompts. We will focus on using correct grammar, plot structure, and how to include detail in a story.

At the end of class, students will have an opportunity to share what they've written, and we will talk about how the writing exercise went and what everyones pets got up to in each story!
Learning Goals
Students will learn about how to structure a short story using the Beginning/Middle/End anchor chart. They will practice writing with detail and correct grammar and spelling, as they have fun creating a short story featuring their pet, or a pet they would like to have someday.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in English from Emerson College
I am a Massachusetts native, and travel between the USA and the UK. I have a BFA in Writing, Literature, and Publishing, and a minor in Journalism, both from Emerson College in Boston, MA.

Coming from a family of teachers, I have worked with children and teens almost my entire life, including as a daycare worker, babysitter, tutor, and as a kindergarten volunteer assistant teacher. I was also the co facilitator of the Young Critics Program at Glasgow Women’s Library, where I mentored young women in order to help them gain confidence in their writing and reviewing abilities.

I love writing, reading, singing, traveling, and cooking. I'm often found in the park walking with my (little) dog, Moose.

Writing is my main passion, and when I was in high school I had a creative writing teacher who changed the course of my life. He truly believed in us, he encouraged us, and he showed us that writing is full of possibilities!

Having support and feedback like that from a teacher (and your peers) has an incredible effect on confidence. It allows you to comfortably take chances and have fun with your writing, which in turn helps you grow into the writer you are meant to be. There are so many amazing stories inside all of us, just waiting to be explored!
