Writing is an essential tool and is used in every language and every culture. Having written and published several books, I’ve had to go through the writing process. As each book was completed, I found ways to improve my planning and writing. Teaching students how to plan, proofread, revise, edit and turn in final drafts will create effective and confident writers.
Students will receive a decent amount of homework due a few hours before the next class. The homework was created to reinforce what was learned during class and to apply old and new strategies for planning, editing, revising, and submitting final drafts. Homework will take approximately 1.5 hours, It really depends on whether students are doing their homework in parts, or sitting down and completing it in one sitting. All homework in this course will involve planning and writing. Videos will be up for review.
During class, students will use a computer, pencil/pen and paper. They may use their computer to type. Students will be provided with handouts that will also be uploaded the week of class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The learner will be assessed based on the work they turn in and feedback that is applied. Via the personal conference, the learner will have a chance to ask important questions and request clarification. The conferences will give the teacher an idea of how students are doing weekly.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
