Over the course of 6 weeks, students will continue to build upon what we learned in Creative Writing and English Composition 1.0. Now that they have started to recognize their own, individual voices, we are going to learn how to more effectively utilize that voice. Creative Writing is designed for students to express themselves through original forms of descriptive writing, poetry, essays, and short stories, while English Composition is essential for the audience to clearly understand what it is that they are saying. Vocabulary development, creative writing techniques, and skills are explored. Students will submit their work for constructive criticism and suggestions to provide the opportunity for intellectual and expressive growth. Writings are presented either orally or in written form. Week One: Reviewing What We Learned In Creative Writing and English Composition 1.0 Week Two: Different Types of Essays Week Three: Narratives and Autobiographies Week Four: Different Types of Poetry Week Five: Journalism and Creative Writing in Media Week Six: Changing the Narrative (Final Writing and Proofreading) There will be specific prompts and occasional reading assignments provided following every class as homework, and during the class, we will focus on free writing and composition development, while also allowing time to share and receive critiques and suggestions from other classmates. Grading will be determined based on individual progress throughout the course, as well as the completion of assignments and class participation. As a teacher, I feel the most accomplished when I see my students succeed and gain confidence while also finding their voice through their writing.

Teacher expertise and credentials
As a journalist and an English Literature Major, writing is one of the most valuable skills to possess, in my opinion. I have had countless pieces of my own writing published, and I pride myself on my unique ability to establish a student’s learning style, which allows me to tailor my teaching methods to each one, individually.
I have a background in child behavioral psychology, and I recognize that using the traditional teaching methods don’t work for every student. Everyone learns differently, and therefore, I treat every student accordingly. I will, gladly, take extra time with individual students, if needed, to allow them to grow into their own creative voice.
I believe that everyone should be given the tools to express themselves, and I feel very passionate about providing each student with those tools in a judgement free, accepting environment.
