This is an engaging creating writing 101 class in which students develop strong creative writing skills and come to love writing! Whether your child struggles to write, or is a budding author, this class is perfect for you! In addition to writing every class, students will also receive very thorough feedback from me for each piece of writing.

We will learn tools and strategies to become better at creative writing. Student's will read and study examples of powerful creative writing and be exposed to a wide variety of creative writing techniques. We will write every class, building excellent writing stamina that will serve your child well in other classes, and beyond. Student’s get to choose what they will write on and unleash their inner creativity while writing on topics of interest! 

This is a very small group, interactive class where each student will receive lots of 1-on-1 time with, feedback and personalized coaching from the teacher. 

Class 1: Strategies to overcome writer's block. Descriptive writing tools: similes, metaphors, personification, alliteration. Crafting vivid scenes. Using strong vocabulary.

Class 2: Short story writing. The elements of a story and how to tell a captivating story. Model texts.

Class 3: Developing powerful characters. Techniques for writing engaging dialogue.

Class 4: We continue to work on our short stories. Learning how to edit and revise our own work. Editing strategies used by famous poets.

Class 5: Writing poetry. Various poetic techniques. 

Class 6: Writing on social issues. How to write a creative piece with a mission.

Class 7: Introduction to and analyzing Shakespearean sonnets. Working in pairs or as a group to write a Shakespearean sonnet.

I am an award-winning teacher with an undergraduate degree from Stanford and a Masters in Education from Cambridge University. I am also a bit of a digital nomad these days! I teach writing, public speaking, web and graphic design, financial management and college application/essay bootcamps.
