I have worked as a professional teaching artist in New York City Public Schools and Private schools for over 5 years. In a city where many children don't have the benefit of "going to play outside in the backyard", it was important to me to create a program that would help build the physical skills that improve physical awareness. Additionally I wanted to provide a safe space where kids felt comfortable taking a risk when trying something new and be observed. Growing up I was extremely shy up until the age of 8. I know first hand how a supportive environment can build self esteem and self confidence. I have a bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts and spent two years studying psychology including child psychology. As a teaching artist I participate in annual professional development workshops that include techniques on building a positive classroom, serving students with physical and cognitive limitations, and designing social emotional curriculum.
