Class Experience

This digital art class is suitable for beginners! Students will need to have the Procreate ($9.99 for iPad) or Procreate Pocket ($4.99 for iPhone) app downloaded and ready to use prior to our first class.

We will learn how to use different features of the app as soon as we dive into our first project. Learners will be able to follow along step by step as I guide them through the creation process. They will be encouraged to ask questions and let me know how they are doing.

In our first project, learners will create a galaxy background to use for their lettering. In our next project, learners will create a textured background and shadow effect for letters. In the second class, learners will incorporate skills from the first day and learn how to blend colors, use the text feature, and will create neon sign effect.

Day 1: Introductions, expectations, getting to know the app, galaxy project, textured letters project.
Day 2: Text feature project and neon sign project.

Hi! I'm Mrs. Huey and I teach elementary and middle school aged kids how to draw and animate on iPads using the Procreate app. These classes are a fun, safe place to foster creativity, showcase artistic expression, and let learners be their most authentic selves.

In my classes, we gather together to explore the far reaches of our imaginations. Whether drawing an under-the-sea waterscape, animating a prehistoric sauropod, or taking creative license with a hand drawn selfie, everyone's ideas and personalities are welcomed.

I've been working as an elementary school teacher in private, public, and charter schools in Northern California since 2009. Prior to that, I earned a B.A. in communication with a minor in environmental science and spent some time working in the public relations industry.

When I'm not teaching, I split my free time among many different interests! I like to run, hike, travel, take nature photos, play guitar, read, write, and practice yoga.
