Creative Lettering 4-Day Camp: One Project a Day (Age 10-15)

This summer camp is designed to give learners the opportunity to learn new art illustration techniques, using creative lettering. We will finish 4 projects, one per day. Learners may either have taken some of my lettering courses before, or they may be beginners. I show each technique through an external video camera, guiding the learners step-by-step. 

Daily projects: 
Monday -  Large initial letter with pattern (either floral or abstract shape) 
Tuesday - Graffiti lettering 
Wednesday - Negative space lettering (invisible 3D letters with shadow) 
Thursday - Quote or phrase combining lettering styles + frame 

For each project, learners may customize their project by choosing their own letters, words, or saying. Each technique that is demonstrated may be applied to the learner's own choice of lettering style, patterns or words. Each day's project results in a frame-able artistic lettering piece. (Note: This class does not teach calligraphy or one particular hand lettering style. Please check out the video to see samples of the 4 projects.) 

SUPPLIES: 
--Before the start of camp, learners should print out a camp pack (less than 10 pages) that I will upload to the Classroom. The camp pack has trace-able figures, ideas for styles and patterns, etc. that we will use during the week. 
--Learners can use everyday supplies:  pencil, eraser, ruler, lettering pens or markers in various colors and sizes, plain paper or card stock. 

ABOUT CLASS TIME: 
--Class time is approximately 1 hour, and all instruction will be completed during that time. Some learners may need extra time finish their project after class by adding color or extra detail. 
--For summer camps, I encourage learners to talk and interact during class time, if they wish. Muting is not required unless there is excessive background noise which interferes with learners hearing my instructions. All learners must be verified on video at the start of class, for safety reasons; after verification, learners are not required to have their video camera on. Learners are welcome to show their lettering work each day, but it is optional. 

NOTE ON DIGITAL DRAWING APPS: Learners who are working on a digital app may enroll in this course, but no instruction will be given for using app functions, layers, brushes, etc. If learners are using Procreate, please consider enrolling in my weekly (ongoing/subscription) Procreate lettering club instead.
