*Doesn't have to be Play Doh - this is just what most people call any kind of modeling dough*

Join us for a fun and interactive Play Doh class where we'll create adorable St. Patrick's Day-themed creations. We may also throw some Spring designs in there.

This class is designed to be student-driven, allowing kids to showcase their unique designs. They can choose to share their creations or simply enjoy the process. My teaching style is student-centered, providing examples and prompts to inspire while encouraging each child's personality and interests.

Students will interact with me and each other through show and tell, discussions, and Q&A sessions. The goal is to make this class a fun, enriching experience that boosts interest in art and learning about insects.

Let's get creative and have a blast making Play Doh masterpieces together!

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
With over two decades of experience as an elementary school librarian in Kentucky, USA, I have dedicated my career to nurturing young minds. Throughout my tenure, I've engaged every K-5 student in my school, providing dynamic 50-minute classes filled with a variety of topics and activities. My library setting grants me the flexibility to explore a wide range of subjects, fostering a love for learning in my students.

My expertise extends to teaching Reading Intervention using renowned methodologies such as Orton Gillingham, Fountas and Pinnell, and the Wilson Language System. Beyond the regular school day, I've led numerous after-school classes, including Crime Scene Investigations, art inspired by picture books, and a popular LEGO club. I also initiated and ran a beloved after-school book club, The Flashlight Readers, for 4th and 5th graders.
In addition to my in-school teaching, I provide tutoring both online and in person for K-8 students across all subjects. As a lifelong learner, I actively seek summer opportunities to broaden my horizons and bring new experiences to my students. My adventures have taken me to:
Savannah, GA: Studied the Gullah culture

Cleveland, MS: Explored segregation, the blues, and the Emmett Till tragedy

Yellowstone National Park: Learned about Indigenous Peoples and the role of the buffalo

Adirondacks, NY: Examined the balance between nature and progress through the Great
Camps

Through Expeditions in Education, I've also traveled to Acadia and Mammoth Cave National Parks, learning to integrate STEM, problem-solving, and nature journaling into my teaching. Additionally, I spent a week at Arrowmont in Gatlinburg, TN, delving into Appalachian art with a focus on printmaking.

My teaching philosophy centers on creating an enriching, student-centered environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, and personal growth.
