Class Experience

This class will introduce students to cubism, the art movement that was primarily founded by artist Pablo Picasso. We will discuss the most popular subjects for cubism (musical instruments, playing cards, and glasses), some other famous cubism artists (Georges Braque, Juan Gris, and Fernand Leger), and look at some of the most famous (kid-friendly) art pieces within the cubism movement. I will begin the class by sharing the history of the movement and showing the students art pieces such as "Fruit Dish and Cards" by Georges Braque, "The Guitarist" by Pablo Picasso, "The Breakfirst" by Juan Gris, and "The Sewer" by Fernand Leger before moving into our own cubism-inspired art project of self portraits. My teaching style is very relaxed; I want the students to enjoy the lesson and get them interested in art. A large portion of the class will be interactive as they are creating their own pieces of art, and I encourage discussion as we learn about the movement. No experience or knowledge is required.

Learning Goals

Students will increase their understanding of the cubism art movement by exploring some of the famous historical pieces as well as creating their own self-portraits.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello!

I am so excited to expand my career through teaching with Outschool! I received my Bachelor's in Management and Marketing from TAMU-CC in 2019 and am pursuing my Master's in Business Administration from there. I have worked as an art instructor for the past two years and absolutely LOVE it, I've taught age ranges from 2 and up! I love getting creative with art and not sticking with just the normal mediums of painting and drawing but even including things like construction paper, glue, toilet paper rolls, and more!

In addition to my love of arts and crafts, I also love being a leader and helping others develop their leadership and professional skills. In undergrad, I held multiple leadership positions in various organizations and was even a part of leadership-based organizations. I remember when I was in high school that skills such as resume creation, interview tips and etiquette, and overall professional development were not taught. I believe that these are skills that are important to possess for all career paths, and as such I would love to help students develop them so that they can possess the knowledge and confidence they need to be successful.
